No Job for a Woman

Thursday night, PBS will be premiering No Job for a Woman: The Women Who Fought to Report WWII and it will feature Dickie Chapelle. I have my DVR set, so should you. After watching the trailer for it, I spotted this piece, Pioneering Women War Correspondents, that includes Margaret Bourke White and Chapelle, as well. Worth 14 minutes of your...

Time to Check Your Time

It happened again last night – time shifted in a lot of places. Get out your cameras this morning and check the clock, chances are you’re off by an hour.

Camera of Lust

As often as I have told people I don’t care about cameras, that I care about pictures, you’d think I would actually believe that … and I do care much more about pictures than cameras when it comes to shooting and telling stories. The Hollywood Reporter has a look at what happened – and what went very, very wrong. From the story: CSX, the Florida-based railway company that owns the tracks, easement and trestle...

What Do You Really Do?

NPR did a really cool thing to coincide with the release of the monthly jobs report – they asked people to post a photo and answer what’s their job title and what do they really do. This is an awesome project for publications to try for the next one – go find people in your community and do short profiles...

Journalism Still Matters

Nice piece by SFGate’s David Wiegand on CBS News’ Scott Pelley, well worth a few minutes of your time. “I think people are being driven to brand names in journalism that they feel like they can trust,” he said. “Because never in human history has so much information been available to so many people, but unfortunately that also means that...

Getty Goes Free

Sort of. Getty images is pulling the watermark off of images and allowing users to embed the images free of charge. How does this work? The new money comes because, once the images are embedded, Getty has much more control over the images. The new embeds are built on the same iframe code that lets you embed a tweet or...
