Moving Up to a Small Publication

I admitted the other day that, at some future point in time, I might head back to a small publication to tell stories again. Turns out, Jonas Bendiksen of Magnum had the same idea – and did it. Dig through that gallery at Wired.com – small town, great images. It can – and should – be done.

Surprise! This Is A Lie – UPDATE

Yesterday, the women of the Democratic women of the 113th Congress gathered on the steps of the Capital for a photo. Except, not everyone was there. So why not just Photoshop the four missing Representatives in later? Sure, it’s a PR photo. But if you’re going to make it publicly available, it should be disclosed. You can take a look...

I never met Mr. Cagwin, and I’ve only had chance conversations with Mr. Strazzante, but I’ve shown Common Ground in my class dozens of...

Leifer on Football

Nice interview and small gallery of images by one of the greatest sports photographers, Neil Leifer, over at Deadspin. Anyone shooting football should be a student of Leifer’s work. Or boxing. Also, any Olympic sport. Heck, just any sport …

How Bloomberg Covered 2012

Nice piece over at the Poynter Institute by Andrew Beaujon about how Bloomberg News covered 2012 visually. Nice bit of thinking about how to extend the long-tail of an image: Bloomberg encourages its photographers to think about how photos can be used again. “Every story we shoot we try to add value by thinking about its secondary value,” said Natasha...
