Copyright and the Fan

Over at the Poynter Institute, Al Tompkins has been looking into the issue of copyright infringements as it relates to video of the crash on Saturday at the Daytona International Speedway. A fan in the stands recorded the incident, posted it to YouTube and NASCAR, the race’s sanctioning body, had it pulled initially claiming a copyright violation. (They later changed their story saying it was to protect the victims’ privacy.)
