Photojournalism Drones

There’s been some buzz over the possibility of drones being used in journalism for the last year or two, now it’s starting to make its way into academia as Syracuse University Professor Dan Pacheco demoed one in an auditorium.

Pacheco, the Syracuse University Newhouse School’s Horvitz Chair in Journalism Innovation, led a public seminar Wednesday to discuss the possibilities and concerns around journalists — or anyone for that matter — using flying cameras.

Possibilities include covering disasters, public gatherings or sporting events; homeowners inspecting their chimneys, parents shooting video of their children’s soccer games.

Only a matter of time before youth sports leagues ban these or raise their fees to cover air traffic controllers at games, I bet.
