The Macro and Micro Level of Compassion and Journalism

Over at Wired.com, Jakob Schiller has a post up about the photojournalists who had to cover yesterday's shooting in Aurora, Colorado. In it he talks with the Associated Press' Barry Gutierrez who made several amazing frames of the families who were involved.

This quote stands out:

“I have to keep the macro view of journalism in my mind at all times,” he says. “I have a duty as a journalist and I have to understand that there are tens of millions of people affected by and watching this story. But at a micro level, I have to be a human being with a heart.”

Very well put, Mr. Gutierrez.
