Holy Holi – Why Color Rocks

From time to time, we photojournalists have this little debate about shooting in color or black and white. I came of age as newspapers were fully transitioning from one to the other and, while I appreciate the simplicity and starkness of a great monochromatic image, my world is in color. Always has been, hopefully always will be. I shot my last roll of black and white film (Ilford XP2, if you’re curious) four years ago.

So when the Holi festival comes around in India, I love the images that get gathered and posted on places like Boston.com’s The Big Picture. That is holy Holi color …
