The Charleston (W.V.) Gazette has informed its readers that one of their photojournalists altered a front-page image. Good for the paper to own up to it immediately, but really? There was nothing wrong with the original photo … shoot around it or own it, but don’t alter it.

This issue is picking up steam – which is a very good thing. Andrew Beaujon at the Poynter Institute is reporting that USA Today and the Tacoma (Wash.) News Tribune will no longer be using handout photos from the White House. Love the line from the Associated Press’ Santiago Lyon that those photos are “visual press releases.” Would you ever...
