USA Today, Tacoma News Tribune Vow to Stop Using White House Handout Photos

This issue is picking up steam – which is a very good thing. Andrew Beaujon at the Poynter Institute is reporting that USA Today and the Tacoma (Wash.) News Tribune will no longer be using handout photos from the White House.

Love the line from the Associated Press’ Santiago Lyon that those photos are “visual press releases.” Would you ever run a press release from anyone without any editing or additional reporting? Then don’t use handout photos.
