Ed Kashi’s Notes From the Road
Over at the New York Times’ Lens blog, James Estrin talks with Ed Kashi about his latest book, a collection of journal entries Kashi has penned to his wife over the last 20 years.
Kashi talked about this project during the NPPA’s Northern Short Course two weeks ago and it was a deeply moving presentation. He feels he has spent half of his life on the road and is afraid of what he has missed as his children have grown up.
Estrin asked, “What does going over this material and publishing it mean to you?”
From a professional and intellectual point of view, I wanted to show people — that photographers are thinking, sensitive, engaged human beings. Not cowboys — or at least, I am not a cowboy looking for thrills. I am not a thrill-seeker. I am doing these things because I genuinely care. And because I am engaged. And because I want to make some difference. And also I am impacted.
The book is now available for pre-order from Nazraeli Press.
