Catching Filter Fakers

This is outside of journalism, but it is a nice tool to have at your disposal … FilterFakers is a web site that lets you plug in the link to an Instagram photo and have it to a metadata analysis to see if the #nofilter hashtag is a lie.

Feeling down on your own photography? That is lacks the punch of your friends with their #nofilter tag? Root out the fakers on your own now.

That said, remember that the power in visual storytelling comes more from the moment than the color, tone or vignetting of the photograph – it is the content that connects us. As Jim Richardson says, “If you want to be a better photographer, stand in front of more interesting stuff.”

(Thanks to colleague Prof. Welch Suggs for the tip.)
