When Does an Image Become a Photograph?

Interesting thought piece by Richard B. Woodward at the Wall Street Journalabout the process of turning a negative into an actual photograph.

This is coming up as negatives are being printed (or scanned) for the first time – do these new interpretations, devoid of influence from the photographer, count as their work? At what point does a frame or file become an image?

(Thanks to Michael Johnston a The Online Photographer for the link.)
