Mona Simpson’s Eulogy for Her Brother, Steve Jobs

The New York Times has published the eulogy Mona Simpson delivered for her brother, Steve Jobs. Beautifully written. I love this part:

Steve worked at what he loved. He worked really hard. Every day.

That’s incredibly simple, but true.

He was the opposite of absent-minded.

He was never embarrassed about working hard, even if the results were failures. If someone as smart as Steve wasn’t ashamed to admit trying, maybe I didn’t have to be.

It’s easy to think of all the successes the Jobs-led Apple has had, but you have to wonder how many things they – he – conceived and then shelved. Know what doesn’t work is much harder than knowing what does. Recognizing it early on … almost impossible.
