Over at FreelanceSwitch, Thursday Bram writes about whether online reviews matter to a business. Her take is that you need to monitor it but it isn’t something to obsess over, but I think it massively depends on your business.
If you’re a freelance photojournalist, your reputation is the only thing you have. A great book or project means a lot, but if everyone in the industry knows you’re difficult to work with, unreliable or inconsistent, well … it’s a really small industry. And it’s full of journalists who gossip … so, yeah.
Your reputation comes from your work, your interactions and other people’s interpretations of those things. Don’t give them anything to misinterpret and you’re on the right path.
