The App for War Photography?

Patrick Kingsley at The Guardian writes about photojournalists Teru Kuwayama and Balazs Gardi who have turned to the Hipstamatic app on their smart phone as their primary visual story telling tool.

I admit, I sometimes like the effect … but I’m not sure it’s journalism so much as art when you start applying heavy filters like this. Journalism should be presentational – presenting what happened, why it happened, why it’s important to know. When you start altering colors, tones, contrast, etc., you move beyond that into an interpretational realm. And, to me, that’s art, not journalism.
