Forgot to Focus? There’s a Camera for That

This may change everything in photography … or, um, nothing.

The New York Times’ Steve Lohr has an article up looking at a new company called Lytro that is developing a camera that lets you focus after making the image.

The Times’ technical explanation is a little lacking, but the company’s web site goes into more detail. Or, you could really geek out and read Ren Ng’s 2006 Ph.D dissertation on Digital Light FIeld Photography for a deeper understanding of how this works. (And, yes, I just stuck it on my iPad for reading later … I am that geeky.)

Will report back after reading the dissertation …
