Does Kodak Own the Internet?
How’s that for an overblown headline to mark the site’s return from oblivion?
Pretty overblown, I’d say … but back to the the news of the visual journalism realm … Kodak is suing Shutterfly (and, of course, Shutterfly is counter-suing Kodak) over a patent infringement that defines how images are stored and sold online.
One of the little known facts about Kodak, who many have derided for not keeping pace in the digital age, is that they invented just about everything needed for digital photography. They developed the Bayer pattern in the 1970s that let chips see in color, one of the core elements of every digital camera out there–without that, none of the rest would have been possible, really.
