Giving Thanks
There are many holidays to celebrate, but today is by far my favorite. It is the day of the year we gather and celebrate what we have, not what we want. We revel in what has been, not what could have been.
I am thankful for my family who have been with me through some rough years. I am thankful for my friends who always have a quick crack and a good story to share. I am thankful for my colleagues who, for eight and a half years now, have supported me and my kids.
And, lastly, I’m thankful for my kids. The students who I get truly are the best of the best, their willingness to work, to try, to learn and to care inspires me to be a better teacher.
So, for today, I share with you one of my favorite images. It is not a photograph, but a lyrical painting of the feast – Norman Rockwell’s Freedom from Want, part of his Four Freedoms series.
I hope your days and memories are as warm as that rendering, and I am thankful for the power to record, preserve and share stories that matter we have today.
