Covering Joplin
Brian Stelter, reporting for the New York Times, put together a mini-diary of his day covering the Joplin tornado. It has some obvious advice and some sound thinking about how to better prepare for diasaster coverage.
He also reminds us of what print and broadcast can – and can’t – do well:
Part of me thought, “This is a television story more than a print story.” It was an appeal to the heart more than the brain.
Worth a few minutes of your time, even though it’s primarily about word-reporting.
