Southwestern to hold 17th annual photojournalism conference
FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) — Photographers from around the country will convene in Fort Worth, Texas, March 5-7, for the 17th annual Southwestern Photojournalism Conference, held at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The conference features prominent professional photographers who will share from their own experiences how the art of visual storytelling can be used to impact others.
The 2010 conference faculty brings experience in sports, news, non-profit and humanitarian photography and includes photographers such as Dave Black, Gary S. Chapman, Esther Havens, Garrett Hubbard and Keith Ladzinski. In addition to their professional experience, each member of the faculty enjoys teaching photojournalism. For information on the faculty and their work, visit www.swpjc.org/faculty2010.html.
Early registration for the 2010 Southwestern Photojournalism Conference is $140 for regular registration and $50 for student registration. After Jan. 31, registration fees increase to $180 for regular registration and $90 for student registration.
An added feature to this year’s conference is the student practicum, which will be held March 4-5 for those seeking further training in photojournalism. Limited to the first 30 students, the workshop includes a photo project and feedback from conference faculty and staff.
Beginning Thursday night, March 4, the conference staff will serve as guides through an on-site exercise. Students will be organized into groups and be given a brief orientation for Friday’s shooting exercise. Following the on-site project, conference staff will be joined by the conference faculty for a critique of each student’s work, providing a time of learning and growth. The cost for the student practicum is $25, which does not include meals.
Representatives from Nikon and Canon will be available again this year to show their latest gear and to provide free clean and checks. Chick-fil-A will also return this year as a sponsor and will provide a free meal during the conference.
