New Canon EOS-1D X Announced
We’ll have to wait until spring to see one, but Canon announced their next pro-level camera this week – the EOS-1D X. It’s … not what many expected.
At the top end of the spectrum, Canon had been selling two cameras – the 1D was (is) a 1.3x cropped sensor camera designed for news and sports. Along side it was the 1DS, a full-frame camera – slower response and burst rates, but higher megapixel rating and better image quality. The new camera merges the lines.
It’ll also sell for, ahem, about $7,000.
Rob Galbraith has chimed in on this, as well as Scott Bourne, the folks at Dpreview.com and the British Journal of Photography.
There, that should keep you busy for a while …
What do I think? No idea … I like the specs and the control layout looks cleaner than the 1D Mark IIn bodies we have here. What I really wanted was a flash system that, you know, works. Maybe that’s coming next week?
