World Press Photo Accepting Applications

The World Press Photo competition is now accepting applications via its web site. Images and stories need to have been produced during 2011. Past winning images are online and, according to the site, 5,691 photographers submitted 108,059 images last year. Competitive, yes, but this is one of the highest honors for photojournalists.

“Some DSLRs Are Big”

That is the explanation that Wendy Neville, a spokeswoman for the London Transport Museum, gave the British Journal of Photography when they asked about a sign posted outside of the Aldwych Underground Station. Which is … odd … when you consider that the sign prompting the phone call reads: Due to their combination of high-quality sensor and high resolution, digital...

If you’re just going through the motions doing what you think a photographer is...

It has me rethinking how I’m going to have students structure interviews for multimedia projects. Perhaps before allowing them to go out into the field,...

MLB Issues Dress Code … for Reporters

Associated Press baseball writer Ben Walker has a story out that Major League Baseball is instituting a dress code for credentialed members of the media. First reaction? No problem. Second reaction? It’s a sad state of affairs when they think we need this. So kids, always remember to dress appropriately. Doesn’t matter what you’re covering, you want to be dressed...
