Canon.canon?

Over at PetaPixel.com, Michael Zhang writes today that Canon has openly stated they want want to register the generic top level domain “.canon”. (Generic top level domains are the .com, .net, .org, etc, found in URLs.)

Which is … well … fine? I guess. Maybe.

Zhang does ask whether a .canon address will be easier or harder to remember than a .com one. It may be a specious argument as they are unlikely to give up canon.com and the .com/.net/.org combos are really pretty new to everyone, anyways, only going back 15 years in the popular memory.

(And, no, it’s not a joke – there’s a press release from Canon on their canon.com site.)
